Wow!! I definitely have to think back on this one. Some of the popular hairstyles in the 80's for African Americans included the Jerry Curl, the High-top Fade (like 5-6 inches high), Fades with a design on the back or the side of the head, Ducktails (a small patch of hair left the back of the head), Basketweaves (girls hair braided in the form of a basket in front of their heads), Feathered Bangs, the Reverse Bob (where one side was cut short and the other side was about shoulders length), and long ';Dookey'; Braids (braids women wore that where very very very thick).What was the black people hair styles in the 80's?

By the 80's, there were dreadlocks and greased curls (think Rick James).
Wasn't that the ';Afro';? Then they started ';The Do's'; like they wear now pretty much.
Lots of braids and beads or chemically straightened hair. No afros - the style was to try and hide the ';black'; hair by keeping it under wraps.

It was definately NOT afro's. Afros ended in the late 70s and were replaced by the curls. I know this becuase I had one until 2000. in the 80s people told me to get a jerry curl then they (fro's) came back in the 90s. jerry curls in the early 80s then in the late 80s flat top. also the shag and short hair for men with Vs in the back and parts. Butters, small waves. The same for women. there are always standards like short hair, braids... then there is some new stuff too...

Relaxed hair was getting popular, some chicks were still rocking cornrows, French braids, but mostly for dudes, it was either tall, boxy close-cropped ';fades'; or for chicks, it was springy set curls.

my hair is pretty much that short to, you should try curling your hair or in your case keeping it curly. but not to the point that you look like a poodle loose curls always look cute you can always keep straight or doin a nice pinned up look you can chechk out tutorials on youtube for short hair they really help
My hair is naturally curly too I like to apply mousse to my hair after I wash my hair and scrunch with my hands spray curl booster dry upside down with diffuser spray hairspray put a cute heade-band and do a half pony tail I'll either do one of each or both of them put together I hope this helps :)
well my hair is dark brown too, but is is longer and i have straight hair with layers and side bags, but for you i would just let it loose keep it like that, or maybe you could like a curly bun, just put your hair up in a bun and have you tried to use a hair straightner?

My hair is the same way brown, curly, and mine is very thick. I'm going to get a short hair cut. With some bangs on the side because i hate bangs in the front! You should try it too! If you don't like that idea get some hair style magazine's! They help!

As far as perfume, I wore Beautiful by Estee Lauder on my wedding day, and still only wear it for ';special'; occasions (like anniversaries, etc.) I really like Amazing Grace (by philosophy) and I also like their Falling in Love fragrance. If you're wanting to pick a special scent for your wedding, the best way to do it is to go to a department store, and try no more than 2 at a time--1 on each arm. Don't buy anything that day, let the chemicals and scent develop, and see how you like it an hour or so later. If you have any bridal magazines, I suggest flipping those and paying careful attention to the hairstyles in the bridal gown ads. My hair is exactly like you described.



Styling options:

1.) Get brown or copper brown highlights

2.) For the front, get bangs and have the back cut in layers with the inside layers cut shorter and the outside layer longer so the hair will naturely curl inwards.

3.) Part your hair in the middle, right side, or left side.

4.) Wear a hair piece (There are nice hair pieces at Banana Republic and Jcrew.)

5.) Tie your hair in a bun and place chopsticks on either side.

if its thick i wouldnt get layers i think that only adds volume. look for styles that would flatter your face shape. you should def try wearing your hair down. if your face is square or heartshaped i think a few face framing angles starting in at the chin would soften up your face. if your face is oblong try a regular angle from below your chin and maybe some long side swept bangs. if your face is round id try keeping it straight but adding some bangs. just talk to your stylist first and make sure she agrees on what would look good with your faceshape. good luck!

OK.First follow my steps for a cute style!








1.Brush hair until straight.





2.Put two dots of conditioner on hand.





3.Use one dot for top of head,and other dot for bottom.((don't rinse))





4.Take half of your hair(scalp side) and put it up.





5.Take the other half(bottom side) and curl it.





6.Then the part that's sticking out from the scrunchies,curl it too.





7.Then put hair spray for a perfect finish!

You could braid some raffia through it. I like using a green color because it looks great with brown hair. =) Either use it in a regular french braid or try one going along the side of your head. Also, I don't know if these are still around, but maybe you could also try one of those stretchy zig-zag headbands. They're good for quick-dos and still make you look great. =) Another thing you could try is to part your hair down the middle, take a small section of hair from both sides, a little above your ears...and loosely clip them together in the back.


Oh and if you want to get rid of that frizz, try using mayonnaise. Just dampen your hair, get the mayonnaise all in your hair, keep a shower cap on for at least 15 minutes, then just rinse out. Use warm (not hot) water to rinse it out, then use cold water (as cold as is comfortable for you). It will give you extra shine. Do the mayonnaise-ing once a week.

I know my mom is in her 60s and for as long as I can remember she has kept her hair short for a number of reasons, 1. she had me when she was older and I guess didn't want me to play with it, 2. she has grand children and again doesn't want them to pull on it, 3. it is thinning and the longer it is the thinner it looks. And 4. long hair takes too much time to mess with.
I am still pondering this one...I am 37 and have no plans of ever cutting mine short.

From a man's perspective.. I'd like to encouraget the long hair. My wife's letting hers grow out finally.. and it looks great! I think the key is to keep it looking healthy and well styled (ends trimmed at least).

I believe that the older you get the less time you want to spend fixing your hair. Longer hair tends to take a lot of time to fix. I have always been told it is based on convenience.

I wouldn't change your natural hair color, especially since you're only 14 turning 15 and have the rest of your life to change it when it turns grey! Leave it the way it is for the most natural look, or maybe get natural looking highlights for a little somthing different. Usually people our age (im same age as you) get either side bangs for a cute looks, face frame for a normal haircut with a little somthing different, or layers for more volume. I wouldn't go so over-the-top, and dont make it too short or u'll look older.What hair styles are in?

Soft locks with your hair down. Want to spice it up a bit. Go get some highlights like a caramel color. Go get it done the same day as the dance and they can style your hair for you. It don't cost any extra because your not getting like an up-do just ask them to do soft locks when they are done with the highlights.
take a small chunk of hair where you would have bangs and clip it back (you know that look) and curl the est of you hair with a big curling iron or just clip you hair.

If you shower quickly in the morning (or even just wet your hair), you can go with a nice natural (but moussed and therefore contained) style. That's what I do.
put it back in a half ponytail, that always looks cute. start with the hair right behing your hair and pull back the rest from their if that makes sense.
my mom usually ties it in a bun, a pony tail, or the occasional french braid. if you tie it tight enough, then your hair doenst go POOF! lol.. i should know, i had curly hair, but it became naturally wavy...

the day of prom go to a spa. get your nails done, get facials, massages etc. if they have a salon (which they most likely do) then have them wash it etc for a different look/feel with the different shampoo. then ask them to put it in hot curlers. if your hair is just to short for this then put in some fun accessories like a tiara. or some clip in (or even permanant) extensions for make it long for your special night. if you dont want to buy fake or real extensions and you think accessories would be tacky then maybe dye it a different color. if you woudlnt want to do that then maybe just a wash out color that lasts for like 2-3 weeks. if that is still not possible the maybe get a colored streak the color of your dress. so like purple if you have a purple dress. you can buy cheap dyes that washes out after 3 days. good luck!Short hair styles for a prom?

Easy hair styles for long hair, mostly down?

I have long (few inches past my shoulders), mid brown hair, quite thin. I'm not too great at hair, so I'm looking for an easy hair style I can do, but I need some hair down coz I look really bad if I don't... dunno why. My hair isn't layered or anything, it's all the same length, and I don't have a fringe or anything like that.

I agree with the first answer. Bunches, plaits and so on can look really cute on mid-length hair.


Try things like side ponytails, too.


Make sure, when you tye your hair, that's it's kind of messy and not really tight, because that's often a very common look and you want something cute and different.


I know you don't like wearing your hair up, but if you tyed it into a ponytail with two strands of hair hanging down at the front, then curl them, it looks really nice.





Also, go onto youtube and type in ';reiberry'; when you have a little extra time. Ignore all of the videos that aren't by the girl called like.. oreiberryo ? i have really long hair (just above the bum) and when i only have a few minutes in the morning, i just grap a section (as if im going to do half up, half down) and then braid it. sometimes i finish it with a plait to the end or just put a bobble in like a pony tail

you could take two sections of hair (one on either side, like above the ear) and just pull it back and clip it there


this can be done with one side too

Asian hair styles for layered medium length hair?

i've had the same hairstyle for ages now and i want to try something different. problem is my hairs really hard to style =_= its dead straight, very layered and medium length, also have a side fringe. i wanted it curled but then i cant do that =.= can anyone give me some pics or websites for some ideas? ohh and uhhh i think i have a round face??? or oval... somewhere in between i think. if that helps to find something that would suit... thanks =)Asian hair styles for layered medium length hair?
According to your face shape, I think full bangs would suit you and with that you can have your hair cut in layers but make sure that your shortest layer length should be to your chin or below it. As you want to try something different this hairstyle would suit you ;)

you can have your bangs shorter than that if you want but it should be below your eyebrows. I think the hairstyle in this picture is really good for you because this girl also has straight hair and it has layers aswell and full bangs.
