First of all, is it relaxed or in it's natural african american, curl patterned state??? I'm going to make the assumption that your hair is relaxed, considering that 95% of black women never wear their hair in it's natural, beautiful, and above all, unique state: which grows UP in beautiful cottony clouds of kinky, coily puffness, and not silky, straight DOWN (with some waves and curls thrown in every now and then) like women from all the other races. I have to say, ain't nothing like seeing a beautiful sista sporting her OWN natural tresses in a midst of a virtually straight haired world...It's beautiful because she doesn't look like anyone else...Okay, I'm going off on a tangent...So as you can tell I wear my hair natural, most of the time in a huge a$$ Angela Davis fro. Although from time to time, when I want something different, I will wear afro puffs, twisties, braids, and the least being(and most extreme!!) straightened with a flat iron when I need a job, because I have to look like everyone else who has straight hair. I have had my hair relaxed, like almost 15 years ago and felt that my styling option were limited, I worried about getting my hair wet in the rain and was afraid to swim for fear that my hair would get messed up and I had to get it processed ALL THE TIME. Nothing was simple when my hair was relaxed except for braids and I kept them in for a couple of weeks or wrapping my hair up in a silk scarf EVERY night so my straight, chemically processed tresses wouldn't get ';NAPPY,'; and so it would be easily ';manageable'; like how my straight haired girlfriends hair was and what my mama taught me. So when you say simple, do mean like a shorter hair cut? Or do you want to keep it long? Do you wear your hair in buns, ponytails, braids? Those are simple styles for a girl with chemically straightened processed hair...Although in my opinion, having natural hair allows more versatility in styling options, simplicity, and uniqueness to a Black woman and her unique beauty. Good Luck:)
one of the best hairstyles for thick/course african-american hair are large barrel-curls like these:

It is easy to do with a curling iron (or rollers.. tho rollers take longer) and it is flattering on any face shape.

Or u could wear a bun like this:

This basically requires u to loosely pull back ur hair and maybe add an accent like a clip or pin. Hope this helps! :)
